Solar advice for people
who don’t own their roof.

The internet’s solar coverage is almost entirely written for homeowners with a south-facing roof and $30,000 to spend. Solarly exists for everyone else.

What we are

Solarly is an independent editorial site covering plug-in solar — the category of small solar panels that connect to a standard outlet, sit on a balcony or window ledge, and quietly reduce your electricity bill without permits, installers, or in most states, landlord approval.

We publish savings guides, state-by-state legal breakdowns, a free calculator, and honest product coverage. Everything is written to help you make a real decision with real numbers.

What we are not

We are not affiliated with any solar installer, panel manufacturer, or utility company. We don’t accept sponsored placements or referral fees from contractors.

When we link to products you can buy, we may earn a small affiliate commission at no cost to you. That’s the only commercial relationship we have — and it doesn’t influence what we recommend.

How we get our numbers

Savings estimates come from real math: panel wattage × average peak sun hours by state × your utility rate. State legal summaries are researched against current legislation and updated when laws change. When we’re uncertain about something, we say so.

We’d rather publish one accurate guide than ten that need correcting.

The Current

Our blog — The Current — covers the changing economics of plug-in solar: new state laws, product launches, the math behind the claims, and what the data actually shows. Independent, ad-free, updated as the market moves.
